Quantitative survey on soldiers and level of participation in gambling
The National Betting Authority (hereinafter referred to as “the Authority”) is announcing a quantitative survey on participation in gambling activities of soldiers and recruits (2019 2nd ESSO) in Cyprus army camps.
The purpose of the survey is to record the degree of participation of soldiers in gambling, to determine the rate of problem gambling among this target group, the frequency of gambling, their budget and actual cost of participation, as well as their views and their perceptions on gambling.
This survey will be carried out in the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between the National Betting Authority and the Ministry of Defence, with the aim of establishing a framework for preventing and addressing any negative consequences of gambling participation between national guards.
In addition, this survey falls within the Authority’s strategic objectives of collecting data and understanding all aspects of society’s participation in gambling. The strategic cooperation between the Authority and the Ministry of Defence is expected to be strengthened by further actions and the development of mechanisms to prevent and protect soldiers from problem gambling.
The survey will be carried out by the Ministry of Defence on a sample of 1000 national guards for the next time frame, by IMR / University of Nicosia. The integrated digital application of YPAM Cyprus operates, simply and easily, through any “smartphone” and enables users to:
