E-Governance Conference: Transforming for the New Digital Era
The National Betting Authority and the Youth Board of Cyprus are hosting a digital conference titled “E-Governance: Transforming for the New Digital Era – The road to digital transformation and a modern state”, on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 10:00am.
Digital transformation is widely recognised as an essential tool in the creation of a modern state whose services, institutions and bodies respond to its citizens’ demands and serve their needs. Regarding the digital transformation of the broader public sector, the Government of Cyprus has been taking steps in this direction in recent years, through its implementation of policies specifically aimed at bringing the state into the digital era.
The conference will address issues such as the policies/strategies that need to be adopted, the process of transforming the public service and the training of public servants. Recent actions taken by the Government and various public sector organisations regarding digital reform will also be presented, together with the challenges experienced during the process.
The ultimate goal of the event is to develop a fruitful and constructive dialogue, encourage the consolidation of cooperation practices, exchange views and promote the adoption of best practices by public and private sector bodies alike.
The event will be chaired by Dr. George Giaglis (Executive Director, Institute for the Future, University of Nicosia) while the keynote addresses will be given by Kyriacos Kokkinos (Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy), who will analyze the digital transformation of Cyprus’ public services and the Deputy Ministry’s digital strategy for the next 5 years as well as by Georgios Georgantas (Deputy Minister of Digital Governance in Greece), who will present the strategy and results of the Digital Transformation in Greece. Dr. Nikolaos Mastroyiannopoulos (National Chief Scientist for Research & Innovation) will also give a keynote address on the importance of research, innovation and technological progress as drivers of growth. A panel discussion will follow, during which views on the road to digital transformation and a modern state will be exchanged by Ioanna Fiakkou (Chairwoman, National Betting Authority), Prodromos Alambritis (Chairman, Cyprus Youth Organization), George Theocharides (Vice-Chairman, Cyprus Securities & Exchange Commission), George Tziortzis (Chief Information Officer, Bank of Cyprus and Head of Management of Consulting, KPMG Cyprus) and Dr. George Giaglis (Executive Director, Institute for the Future, University of Nicosia).
